We are delighted to share that Old Haileyburian William Miller (Hailey, 1969) was invited to deliver the inaugural lecture launching the new International Anglo‑Canarian Forum at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Held on Tuesday 2 December, the lecture attracted a distinguished audience comprising university students, senior academics, and a number of VIP guests, including the British and Swiss Consuls, the Rector and Vice Rector of the University, and the Vicar of the historic English Church founded by the Miller family. Members of the British Club of Gran Canaria and representatives of local heritage organisations were also in attendance.
William’s lecture explored the topic, “Why, When and How the Miller Family Came from Scotland to Gran Canaria in 1812, and What They Did for the Island When They Came.” He traced the family’s rich history and their contribution to the island’s development, drawing on research detailed in books authored by both his late father and himself.
The invitation to speak came at the recommendation of Professor Dr. María Isabel González‑Cruz, who later described the event as a great success.

Your talk was fantastic, and everyone I spoke to was delighted with the whole event.
